Where Royalty meets Luxury

History

HISTORY

Constructed as part of a war strategy in the 16th Century and situated in the Aravalli hills surrounded by 15 kilometers of impregnable forest, the Gogunda Palace was the capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Mewar ruled by one of the greatest Hindu Rajput Kings, Maharana Pratap Singh who overthrew the Mughal Emperor, Akbar, from Mewar and restored its glory.

ACCOMMODATION

raj tilak.jpg

This was the suite where the coronation of Maharana Pratap Singh took place to become the 54th Maharana of Mewar of the Sisodia Dynasty after the death of his father, Udai Singh II.

DSC_8846.jpg

These rooms were formerly part of a stable for Maharana Pratap Singh's family. In these rooms was situated the Horse Temple, an alter where horses were anointed before riding off to battle.

With focus on vivid colour and rich Mewari art, these suites contain a mirror wall akin to the Glass palace (Sheesh Mahal). The walls are adorned with hand-painted Shekhavati murals.

DSC_8921.jpg

These suites were formerly part of the honored private residential wing of the menfolk of the Sisodia Dynasty to which Maharana Pratap belonged. The focus is on opulence and grandeur with a hint of masculine undertones.

These rooms were formerly a storage for grains and perishable items (Kothar) and were then the warriors' rooms (Jhujar Niwas).
