Where Rajput Valour, Heritage & Royal Hospitality Come Alive

There is an old saying in Rajasthan that a Rajput Maharana should never be challenged over three things—his fort-palace, his war horse, and his favourite queen. At Gogunda Palace, each stone, archway and courtyard echoes the spirit behind that legend.

More than a palace, our palace is a living chapter of Mewar's glorious history. Unlike many royal residences built purely for regal living, this 16th-century marvel was conceived as a strategic stronghold. Perched amidst the rugged beauty of the Aravalli hills and protected by nearly 15 kilometres of dense forest, it was known as a van durgh—a forest fort designed to safeguard a kingdom in turbulent times.

Today, this magnificent palace stands as a distinguished heritage hotel in Gogunda, where centuries of history, Rajput valour and timeless hospitality come together to offer an authentic royal experience in the heart of Rajasthan.

The Legacy of Mewar's Royal Stronghold

The palace occupies a revered place in the history of Mewar. In 1567, when Mughal Emperor Akbar launched his campaign against Mewar and besieged Chittorgarh, Maharana Udai Singh II sought refuge in Gogunda. It was here that he spent his final years and where, in 1572, his son Maharana Pratap Singh ascended the throne in a historic Raj Tilak ceremony.

From this very palace, the legendary Maharana Pratap planned his resistance against the Mughal empire, turning Gogunda into the capital of Mewar until the rise of Udaipur. The palace also witnessed the final war council before the iconic Battle of Haldighati, forever cementing its place in Rajasthan's heroic past.

Rajput Hospitality & Palace Grandeur

Today, that legacy continues through a distinctly Indian experience of hospitality rooted in warmth, tradition and timeless grandeur. As you step through the majestic Hathi Pol (Elephant Gate), you are welcomed in true Rajput style—with vibrant colours, traditional dances and heartfelt Mewari hospitality.

Nestled amidst verdant landscapes, the palace radiates the golden hues of Rajasthan's desert sun. Its architecture is a celebration of authentic Mewari craftsmanship, featuring elegant jharokhas, intricately carved pillars, arched doorways, sprawling terraces, ornate cupolas and traditional chattris. At its heart lies a magnificent 20-acre Charbagh garden, adorned with marble fountains, fragrant Champa blooms, Neem trees and vibrant bougainvillaea, creating a setting that is both regal and serene.
